Community
At Western Refining, accountability is the cornerstone of our business philosophy. A fundamental part of this idea is our belief that we have a responsibility to invest in our communities, prudently and effectively. We are proud to give our time, talent, and financial resources to a wide variety of activities to improve the quality of life for our neighbors and our employees. All of us at Western share a vision to establish and maintain high standards in everything we do, from safety and health issues to environmental stewardship; from sound business practices to supporting the changing needs of our communities.
We are committed to making meaningful and lasting improvements to our neighborhoods by increasing opportunity and equitability for those most in need. To achieve the greatest impact for our efforts, we leverage our strengths by collaborating with other key businesses and community organizations, as well as our own employees, to identify and support worthwhile charitable and civic activities. As a good corporate citizen, we maintain a special focus in these areas:
• Health
• The Arts
• Education
• Economic Development
• Family
Some of the charities and non-profit organizations we actively support are the United Way, the American Cancer Society, the Boys and Girls Clubs, Special Olympics, and the American Heart Association.
As an example of our commitment to the health of the people in our communities, Western sponsors an annual “Neighborhood Health Fair” at our El Paso refinery. We provide medical tests and inoculations for families that live in our neighborhood. We also offer blood pressure checks, diabetes screening, flu shots, blood donation, kids' fingerprinting, and more.
Western Refining also supports higher education through scholarships and donations to local universities and colleges within our communities. Our success can be measured in the high achievement of students, which helps ensure their ability to enter the workforce prepared and ready for long-term careers. We’re especially proud that some of these students have come to work right here at Western.
Giving back to our community. It’s all part of being a good neighbor.
