Golf Classic

The Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic takes place every November at the El Paso Country Club. This is a one-of-a-kind event and the only NCAA tournament where players compete head-to-head. This tournament has been played continuously since 1974. In 2002, Western became the title sponsor of this event in association with the Sun Bowl Association, an organization that has been part of El Paso's history for over 75 years.

Throughout its history, this tournament has established a reputation for the quality of the competition and the caliber of the players. Several players have successfully pursued careers as professional golfers, and many have joined the ranks of the PGA.

In 1995, Tiger Woods sank a 20-foot putt to win a sudden death play-off. Davis Love III won the tournament in 1984 and David Duval won in 1991. Jerry Pate won the very first tournament in 1974. Payne Stewart and Justin Leonard also played here.

The Western Refining College All-America Golf Classic provides an opportunity for gifted young players to test themselves against the best as well as providing an opportunity for lovers of the game to witness history in the making. The tournament is free and open to the public.

At Western Refining, we’re proud to be a part of this history, and of history yet to be made.
